Principles of Project Control

Overview

This intensive five-day course gives an in-depth review of the fundamentals of Project Control. The core Project Controls disciplines of planning and control are comprehensively covered, as well as related areas of cash flow management, risk and document control.
The course has been mapped to the Specific Knowledge and the significant units of competence for NVQ/SVQ Level 3/4 awards in Project Control, and can be used to contribute towards a "Portfolio of evidence" for those delegates undertaking the NVQ/SVQ in Project Controls.
All terms and techniques covered in the course are compatible with BS 6079-1:2000, Guide to Project Management and the APM Body of Knowledge.

Objectives

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

• Understand the value of project control to project success and improve the project team's contribution to the project performance.
• Perform many of the key project control processes and techniques.
• Contribute to the improved management of project control.
• Appreciate the integration of budget and schedules on projects.
• Appreciate role and relationship of document management to successful project management and control.
• Contribute to a positive culture for project control in the project team.
• Review effectiveness of measures for controlling risks.
• Improve understanding of the application of probability to business decisions.
• Understand the knowledge underpinning the Project Control NVQ/SVQ and be able to develop the appropriate competence for Level 3/4 awards.

Duration

The course is five days and begins at 9:00 AM.

Attendees

The target audience is employees with industrial experience in engineering or projects who are either new to project control, or are being prepared for project control roles, or who require a refresher overview of project control principles, or relatively recent graduate entrants to the industry.
It is also particularly suitable for graduate, project and discipline engineers, planning engineers, cost engineers, quantity surveyors to learn how projects are planned and controlled in industry.
